Jared: Obesity's Superstar
How has Subway Changed Your Life?
When it comes to weight loss, most of the time everyone’s first thoughts are of the Subway guy, Jared. Somehow by commercials everyone has seen him at least once. He used to be obese and had reached his maximum weight of 425 pounds. This staggeringly high amount of weight was accumulated after many years of horrific eating habits. As a result Jared is an excellent example to how obesity can affect someone’s life, and how it can be turned around with hard work and dedication. Jared was known for losing over two hundred pounds with the “Subway diet” combined with consistent exercise.
Jared growing up had adapted terrible eating habits, and gradually climbed the scales until reaching his apex. By his junior year at North Central High School, Fogle's weight was at 425 pounds, and he said he wore size 6XL shirts. Several years later, after his roommate, a pre-med student at Indiana University in Bloomington, correctly diagnosed Jared with sleep apnea and edema, he was sent to the hospital. Fogle's father, who is a physician, told him he might not live past 35, and Jared began to turn his life around. At the age of 20, Fogle estimated he consumed a diet of around 10,000 calories a day. Interested by Subway's "7 under 6" campaign, Fogle tried his first turkey sub and enjoyed the sandwich. He developed his own Subway diet, consisting of a 6 inch turkey sub for lunch and a foot long veggie sub for dinner. After three months on the diet, he had lost nearly 100 pounds and weighed in at 330 pounds. He stuck with the diet and soon began to walk as much as he could, rather than using transport and would walk up the stairs rather than take an elevator. By the end of the diet, Jared had lost over 240 pounds. All in all, Jared is the well known person that once was pulled down by obesity, but at the same time gives hope that most desperately need it.
In conclusion, the Subway guy, Jared, is in our society the most influential person when it comes to weight loss. In fact, the obese see him as the god of weight loss. The feat that Jared did was no easy task and not only did it need constant work, but also dedication. This is who the obese have to look up too, and know that there is a way to break those horrendous eating habits to help them lose weight.
